Port Blair, Mar 09: In a positive development, the Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Port Blair has been recognized by the Ministry of Health to conduct test of COVID19, Dr. Avijit Roy, the Nodal Officer of COVID19 in A & N Islands told Andaman Sheekha today.
“We can now send samples to Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Port Blair directly and check the result immediately. We will be in a very safe side because of this,” Dr. Roy added.
The Nodal Officer COVID19 added that till now there are no positive case of COVID19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Health Department is taking all due precautions.
When asked about the Thailand Cargo Ship, MV HONG LIHN-I, which reached Mayabunder Port of Andaman yesterday and the status of all the crew, Mr. Roy said that yesterday after arrival of the ship a team of doctors and medical team thoroughly examined all the 21 crew members in connection with COVID-19 and presently no symptoms has been found in any of the crew members.
However as a precautionary measure necessary advisory was issued to all the crew members as per the guidance of Directorate of Health Service, A&N Administration.

When US has stopped this countries arrival be it at port or air or any other commuting way why can’t we take some precautions and be on a safer side. We the people of Andaman should not allow this to happen in our island. So is our humble request to our management to withhold all this for a while.
