Port Blair, Mar 09: Septuagenarian Mr. Nitai Biswas, a resident of Cuthbert Bay area of Middle Andaman has still not received his old age pension even after he made his Aadhar Card and Ration Card after the intervention of Island Protection Forum.
As per reports, the septuagenarian was denied benefits of all social welfare schemes to which he was entitled to, just because he didn’t have an Aadhar Card.
According to the President, IPF, Mr. MT Mustafa, the septuagenarian tried 07 attempts to make his Aadhar Card but because the system doesn’t recognize his fingerprints, he was never issued an Aadhar Card.
After the involvement of IPF and media when the authorities took cognizance of it, the Civil Supplies Department immediately issued the needy with an Aadhar Card and Ration Card but till date, the Social Welfare Department, which has been established to look after the welfare of the people has perhaps forgotten about the pension file of the needy and it is more than one month now, there is no outcome of it.
“The file has been submitted by hand to the Rangat CDPO office with a letter so that the needy may receive the benefits at the earliest but it has taken more than one month for the CDPO Rangat office for the verification of the person,” Mr. Mustafa said.
There are two disabled children in the house of Mr. Nitai Biswas and currently, with some donations from IPF, he is running the show.
The IPF, as promised earlier has donated an amount of Rs 2500 this month once again and is committed to continue the help till the Department releases all the benefits of government schemes to the needy, he is entitled to, Mr.Mustafa said.
