Port Blair, Feb 25: The massive protest of JNRM students was called off on the second day today after the intervention of the Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma but the MP has reportedly communicated the college authorities and Andaman Administration that if issues of the hostellers of JNRM is not sorted-out in another two days, he along with the college hostellers will sit on yet another protest.
Unhygienic conditions, stinking and dirty toilet blocks and lack of basic facilities in the hostel had forced the hostellers of JNRM to sit on a strike since yesterday at 07:30 am in front of the college.
Even Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, MP, who reached the spot to listen to the grievances of the students, was shocked when he heard from the protesting students that leakage in the septic tank of the hostel was not maintained even after repeated requests, made by the students.
Mr. Sharma has assured the students that he will also sit along with them in protest if the issues are not sorted- out in two days. However, the MP has requested the students to give a reasonable time of two days to the authorities to carryout cleanliness work inside the hostel.
The MP also pointed finger on the authorities, who didn’t even come to listen to the grievances of the students who protested infornt of the college at night.
NSUI President of Andaman Nicobar Unit, Mr. MA Sajid and workers of ABVP also supported hundreds of protesting hostellers of the college.
