Port Blair, Jan 19: As part of Police Raising Week from 16th to 23rd January, 2020, South Andaman District Police organized an Open Beach Volleyball Championship in both Men & Women category at Corbyn’s Cove beach, Port Blair from 12th to 18th January, 2020 in collaboration with Andaman & Nicobar State Olympic Association under the aegis of YUVA, an initiative of Andaman & Nicobar Police. A total of 46 teams for Men Category and 13 teams for Women category participated in the tournament.The closing ceremony was graced by Shri. Dependra Pathak, IPS, Director General of Police, Andaman & Nicobar Islands as Chief Guest who gave away the trophies and Cash prizes along with Certificates to winners of Men’s category (Chinappa & Rayappa) & Women’s category (Martina & Sabina) and to the Runners-up of Men’s category (Banig & Chris) & Women’s category (Raeeza & Anzila). Banig & Raeeza were adjudged as the Best players of the tournament for Men and women category respectively and team “Vipul” recognized as Best team of the tournament. DGP encouraged the youth to participate in more such events regularly. By far this is the biggest such tournament ever organized in the Islands for Beach Volleyball and has set a benchmark for future tournaments here.
