Port Blair, Dec 20: There was a time when all the speed breakers in city used to be well marked for the safety of motorists but now as the top officials hardly meet public and listen to their problems and are totally unaware about ground realities, the junior officers have also taken things too lightly and are neglecting their basic duties.
At present dozens of speed breakers in city remained without proper marking, making it too difficult for the motorists to identify the exact location of the speed breakers.
As a result motorists, especially two wheeler riders are at great risk. In past people have witnessed many accidents in city where motorists hit a speed breaker, after which he lost balanced and fell. There were cases where people even died because of such accidents.
The speed breaker of Austinabad, Chakkargaon are perfect example of such negligence and may cause a major accident anytime.
There is an urgent need to immediately paint these speed breakers with reflective colours so that safety of motorists can be ensured in city. Hope someone is listening.
