Port Blair, Dec 06: Four people were brought to GB Pant Hospital from Kamraj Nagar this evening at around 03:15 pm, with severe burnt injuries. Out of the 04 people 03 were brought with about 90 percent burnt injuries.
As per report, the victims were identified as Bishnu Mondol, Suchitra Mandal his wife and Ms Banu and Rupali. It is learnt that Husband of Suchitra Mandal and two other ladies suffered about 90 percent burn injuries, while Suchitra Mandal suffered burn injuries only in her hands and back.
According to sources, one of the victims was heard telling her relatives that she, Rupali and Bishnu Mondol were set on fire by Suchitra, wife of Bishnu Mondol suspecting that Rupali was having an extramarital affair with her husband.
The victims reportedly also added that they were called by the wife of Mr Bishnu Mondol to settle this issue of extra marital affair but the discussion turned into a heated argument following which wife of Bishnu Mondol set them on fire, using petrol.
However, the accused who suffered nearly 10 percent injuries in her hands and back claimed that she was trying to commit suicide and while taking this extreme step the other 03 came to rescue and suffered major burn injuries.
The Police Department has registered a case in this regard and deeply investigating the matter. Further details are awaited.
