Port Blair, Nov 22: Andaman Sheekha on its issue dated 6, November 2019, had highlighted that after withdrawal of defective ferry MV Bulbul from Long Island and how a stand by vessel MV Durga Prasad is causing problems for students of Long Island because of its slow speed.
When contacted the Deputy Director Shipping Services, Mr R Veeraih had assured Andaman Sheekha that the DSS will be sending another vessel MV Hawabill to Long Island for the relief of the Islanders.
Now it is learnt that nearly 10 days back MV Hawabill had reached Long Island but to the utter dismay of the people of Long Island, the MV Hawabill is said to be slower than MV Durga Prasad and taking a little more than 90 minutes to reach Rangat.
Now the students of Long Island are alleging that instead of providing relief to them the DSS has brought more problems for them.
“We request the DSS that if it is impossible to send a speed boat for Long Island then atleast the DSS must provide service of MV Durga Prasad in morning hours so that students can reach Yeretta Jetty a little early and attend exams on time,” said a resident of Long Island.
This is sad to note that how insensitive the Administration has become towards public. Situations are so bad that even the Administration is unable to make arrangements even for students to reach school on time.
