Port Blair, Oct 15: Twenty-one days “National Training Programme on Sustainable Integrated Farming Systems for Coastal Eco-regions of India” jointly organized by ICAR-CIARI & ANGRAU under World Bank funded project got concluded on 14.10.2019 at CIARI Port Blair. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest, Dr.M. Ariz Ahammed, IAS, Managing Director, National Horticultural Board, Gurgaon, lauded the contribution of ICAR-CIARI for the development of agriculture, horticulture and allied activities in a diverse and ecologically sensitive ecosystem of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He advised the trainees to become successful entrepreneurs in the field of horticulture and provide livelihood support to others. He also advised the students to come up with novel ideas to solve the problems of farmers in a constructive manner. He also gave away the course completion certificates to the students.Dr.V. Damodara Naidu, Vice Chancellor of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), Amravati, Andhra Pradesh in his Valedictory address appreciated the team of CIARI for successfully conducting the training programme for undergraduate students to give them exposure in the field of Integrated Farming Systems for Coastal Eco-regions of India. He also expressed that the 21 days training programme have exposed them for all-round development to take up entrepreneurship in future as per the feedback received on interaction. Dr.B. Gangaiah, Director (Acting), ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair and Course Director, in his presidential address congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the 21 days training programme, which had all the ingredients etc like technical, motivational, field exposure, personality development, yoga and sports, which was deliberated by diversified experts. The basic purpose of the training was to make the student ready for the climate change induced challenges of agriculture in their respective region.
Dr.T. Srinivasa Rao, Dean, ANGRAU, opined that this training programme helped the students to upgrade their knowledge with all round development for professional career.
Dr.T. P Swarnam Principal Scientist & Course Coordinator presented the brief report about the training; Dr.S.K. Zamir Ahmed Principal Scientist gave the pre & post evaluation report and Dr.P. Prasanna Kumari, Associate Professor and Coordinator from the ANGRAU side placed her quality impressions on the meticulous conduct of the programme. The students also gave the positive feedback on the overall conduct of the IDP training and promised to do the best for the Nation. A total of 30 final year B.Sc.(Ag.) students representing four Agricultural colleges at Mahanadi (4 nos), Naira (6 nos), Bapatla (10 nos.) and Bapatla (10 no) attended the programme from 24.09.2019 to 14.10.2019.At the outset Mr. S.K. Singh Senior Administrative Officer, CIARI welcomed the august gathering and Dr.S.K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist & In-charge, Social Science Section proposed vote of thanks.
