Port Blair, Sept.24: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, N & M Andaman, celebrated “POSHAN MAAH” with great zeal & enthusiasm in Govt. Secondary School, Govindapur on 21st September 2019. The objective of the programme was to impart awareness among students about the importance of nutrition for good health, and its overall impact on nation building. Mr. Anil Kumar Dey, Principal, Govt. Secondary School, Govindapur was the chief guest of the function. While addressing the students Mr. Dey appreciated the efforts of KVK, N & M Andaman in organizing such an event for the school students who are the best medium for the change in the society. Further, he requested the students to spread the knowledge that will be gained during the course of the programme among the family members & neighbors. The programme included interactive lectures, film shows, quiz competition etc. Dr. Shailesh Kumar, SMS (Fisheries) discussed about supreme contribution of fish in promoting healthy life. Dr. Shardul Vikram Lal, SMS (Animal Sc.) highlighted about the crucial requirements of milk and eggs in daily diets. Shri .B .L Meena, SMS (Agronomy) briefed about nutritive value of cereals & its products. Dr. Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Science), enlightened the gathering about the need of eating a balanced diet & weight management for building a healthy nation. Film show was screened by Mr. Prasant Pradhan, Computer Programmer.
A total of 105 students participated in the programme .In the concluding ceremony prizes were distributed to the winners of quiz competition.
The programme was organized under the supervision & guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath & Dr. B. Gangaiah, Director, CIARI, Port Blair.
