Port Blair, August 25: Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit (CFNEU), Port Blair organised an Orientation Training Course (OTC) on “Health and Nutrition” at Manpur Anganwadi Kendra in Manpur Village, Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project Ferrargunj, South Andaman, recently. About 30 Anganwadi workers of ICDS Project Ferrargunj were enrolled in the course. During the training, the Anganwadi workers were sensitized about various aspects of health and nutrition like Low birth weight, Nutrition requirements of adolescent girls, pregnant women & lactating mothers, the significance of early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and continuing breastfeeding to infants for 2 years. Mr Anil Kumar Dhiman, Demonstration officer of CFNEU informed the Anganwadi workers about causes, consequences, symptoms & prevention of Anaemia, Vitamin A deficiency, Iodine Deficiency Disorder and child malnutrition. The importance of adequate nourishment to infants and children was also highlighted in the training. Preparation of low-cost food items was also demonstrated on the occasion. CFNEU operates under the Food and Nutrition Board of Ministry of Woman and Child Development.
