Port Blair, August 20: On the occasion of 75th Birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi, the Pradesh Congress Committee and its various frontal organization organized several programs to commemorate his contribution towards the development of the Nation. To pay respect, AICC member Mr K Muthu garlanded the portrait of Rajiv jee followed by floral tribute given by the members of District Congress Committee, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI and others present on the occasion while AICC member Mr RV Reddy read out the Sadbhawana Pledge on the occasion at Gandhi Bhavan. In the morning at 7.00 AM under the aegis Mr John Robert Babu, the Youth Congress carried out cleanliness drive at Junglighat Crematorium. At 10.00 AM Pradesh Youth Congress and National Students’ Union of India jointly organized a blood camp at Gandhi Bhavan and on the occasion, 26 numbers donated blood. With the initiative of Mahila Congress, a seminar on women empowerment and contribution of women in Indian society was organized at Gandhi Bhavan. Ms VK Mariyam Bibi, working President of Mahila Congress addressed the occasion followed by prominent female personalities of the Islands namely Miss Sanya Subhash, Jr Ambassador of Beti Padhao Beti Bachao of Navy Children School, Miss G Priya, student of Mohanpura Girls Sr Sec School, recipient of Lt Governor’s commendation and Ms Nazneen, Advocate. Remembering Rajiv jee who has introduced Panchayati Raj System in India, a socio-cultural program was organized by the Youth Congress in the evening at Mithakhadi Gram Panchayat, which was recently awarded as Best Performing Panchayat.
