Port Blair, Aug 19: After collapse of Bailey bridge over Thorantang twice, the NHIDCL contractors are now planning Massive RCC Home Pipe Culvert over Thoratang Nallah, instead of constructing Bailey Bridge in the site.
One bitten, twice shy the contractors have dropped the idea of Bailey bridge completely. Infact the NHIDCL was supposed to construct a RCC bridge over Thorantang Nallah but before that the Bailey bridge collapsed.
Now it has been learnt that for time being this Home Pipe Culvert will be made and later RCC bridge will constructed by NHIDCL, which is a part of ATR upgradation process.
The in-charge of construction site at Thoratang Mr. Anand of Vashishta construction company Pvt ltd told Andaman Sheekha that that if the weather permits they will be able to complete the task of fixing Home Pipe within next two days and all works will be finished within this week and by the next week, NHIDCL will open the culvert for ATR traffic, which will be a great relief for ATR public and businessmen.
At present due to absence of a proper bridge all the cargo are transported to North and Middle Andaman via TV Kullam Bridge and as the TV Kullam Bridge has limited capacity all cargo vehicles are asked to offload cargo in small vehicles before crossing the TV Kullam Bridge and after crossing the bridge again the cargo are loaded in vehicles, which is not only a time consuming process but also causing huge loss to public and businessmen.
