Port Blair, August 6: Mr Vishal Jolly, the State President, BJP, A & N Islands, has written a letter to Mr Amit Shah, the Minister of Home Affairs, New Delhi, to provide 5 years age relaxation to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in A&N Islands. He mentioned in his letter that, the Central Govt. has introduced 10% reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections to bring a massive economic growth on the life of the poor belonging to the general category.
He indicated that the population of A&N Islands is inhabited or settled in these islands under central schemes or voluntarily during both pre and post-independence and the inhabitation based reservation quota policy is enforce in A&N Islands.
The OBC/SC/ST of other States/ UTs particularly from West Bengal, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh etc., who have settled in these islands, are placed under general category in A&N reservation quota policy. Even though they belong to OBC/SC/ST family, they never avail any benefits under any reservation schemes so far. Most of the general category people are coming under the Economically Weaker Sections in A&N Islands.
He highlighted that the Govt. departments employed the island youths as DRMs and outsourcing due to no permanent recruitment on a regular interval. At the same time, DRM is the only source employment to A&N educated youths. Most of the youths serviced the departments of A&N Administration as DRM for more than 10-15 years and crossed their age limits.
Mr Jolly further mentioned that the Govt. of India is under the process to fill all vacant posts on time bond. Citing the current situation and to get fruitful results to islanders by reaching the opportunities of the GOI’s Economically Weaker Sections scheme up to a grassroots population of A&N Islands. Mr Jolly has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to provide 5 years age relaxation to Economically Weaker Sections of A&N Islands in the Govt. jobs to help EWSs on getting permanent jobs in future and serve the purpose of the EWSs reservation.
