CHENNAI: With the U.S. presidential election unfolding this November, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai is asking residents in the world’s largest democracy how they would make a difference – by making their own campaign video or speech! This election video contest, entitled “A Video, A Campaign, A Vote,” is part of several election-related programs being organized by the Consulate to coincide with the U.S. election conventions and Election Day on November 6, 2012.
Participants must develop their own video clips on electoral campaign ads, manifestos, or speeches. Clips may be based on – but are not limited to – any one of the following themes: the Environment, Business, Education, Health, Women’s Issues or Good Governance.
The contest is open to Indian citizens, above 18 years, residing in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A panel of experts will judge the entries and select the winners.
The duration of the video must be at least 30-seconds long and a maximum of 2 minutes long. Videos may be in English, Tamil, Kannada, or Malayalam (with English subtitles for vernacular entries). Participants should use their creativity and technical skills to make the video appealing, educational and fun.
Videos may be entirely shot from a range of video devices including, but not limited to, mobile phone video, laptops, and/or video cameras.
The U.S. Consulate’s website http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/ and Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/chennai.usconsulate have the complete set of guidelines and rules for the contest, including video submission procedures. There is no fee to enter the contest. The deadline for submission of entries is September 30, 2012.
U.S. Mission employees and their family members are not eligible to participate.
Prizes, one per video: 1st Prize: Chroma Electronics Store gift certificate; 2nd Prize: One iPod Shuffle.
