Port Blair, Aug 22: The Annual Training Camp (ATC) 2012 of No. I (AN) Naval Unit NCC got under way with its inauguration by Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, Chief of Staff of the A&N Command at ITF ground, VIP Road here this evening. About 375 cadets of JD, SD and SW (Girls) from various schools and colleges are attending the camp.
Addressing the participants, the Admiral threw light upon the importance of character development at this growing state and said the NCC is the right platform for over all development. He further added that the cadets are further exposed to personality development, endurance, loyalty, tactfulness community living and public speaking. He called upon the cadets to learn that it always gives more joy in giving than taking. He emphasized the NCC “C” category holder to try for commissioning in the Armed Forces as they can go for Service selection Board interview directly by passing the All India written examination. He extended all the support of the A&N Command for the benefit of the NCC cadets of this Island including camp venues close to sea or at sea itself for further camps. He urged them to do well in this camp and also participate in other prescribed camps such as Advanced Leadership Camps, Nau Sainik Camps, National Integration Camps, Republic Day Camps etc and improve their skills to become better citizens of our country.
The camp will continue up to 31st August 2012. During the camp various activities including sports events, cultural programmes, ship and submarine visit, a day at sea, parade, drill quiz competition, small arms firing, lectures on different topics etc. will be organized. Various social service activities like Beach cleaning, Voluntary Blood Donation camp, Anti Plastic Rally etc will also be carried out. The camp shall observe its Camp Fire in the evening of 31.08.2012. The Commanding Officer, Commander John E Mathew said here today.
