Port Blair, July 30: A relay hunger strike was organised by Congress unit of Rangat under the guidance of Mr Rangalal Halder, Pradhan Janakpur at Rangat Bazar in Middle Andaman region. The strike was against the closure of local quarries in Andaman and also against transfer of regular labourers of APWD to other departments such as Electricity and Agriculture Department.
The protesting people are demanding immediate appointment of labourers of APWD against available vacant posts in all departments and stop the unnecessary transfer as well. The protesting people threatened that if Administration do not take immediate steps then the protest will become bigger in coming days.
