Port Blair, July 24: Deeply annoyed with indiscriminate and unscheduled power cuts in Billyground area, the Pradhan of Harinagar Gram Panchayat, Mr. Uttam Mandal has raised question whether the Electricity Department is taking revenge with the public of Billyground.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha that Pradhan of Harinagar Gram Panchayat, Mr. Uttam Mandal today said that recently a massive protest was organized at Billyground area by public and PRI members against various issues, among which, indiscriminate power cuts was a prominent issue.
“It seems that now the Department is taking revenge. No one from the Department told us anything but I keep hearing that some officials are taunting villagers, who were in protest, whenever the villagers ask about the reason of power cuts,” Mr. Uttam Mandal said.
The Pradhan said that there is no fix duration of power cuts in Billyground area these days, sometimes the power cuts are 13 to 14 hours long and there is no one to tell public about the reason behind such long power cuts.
“How come department cut power without proper schedule for power cut? The department also doesn’t have enough man power for line maintenance which is one of the biggest reasons behind such power cuts,” he added.
