Port Blair, June 30: The Andaman Trunk Road is witnessing heavy flow of traffic since Saturday because of the vacation end rush but due to breakdown of MV Lapathy, the heavy traffic is facing disruptions.
Attempts were made to repair MV Lapathy on Friday night but even after repair at late evening on Friday again at 9.50 PM the vessel suffered breakdown.
To manage the traffic situation the Shipping Services sent one vehicle ferry vessel MVF Austin-IV, from Kadamtala to Baratang. But as MV Kadamtala, which is already operating in Middle Strait and newly arrived MVF Austin-IV both are comparatively smaller vehicle ferry, these vessels are unable to cater to the heavy rush.
Meanwhile, similar news of traffic disruption is also coming from Humphrey Strait (Gandhi Ghat Kadamatala), where only one vehicle ferry is being operated after MVF Austin-IV was sent to Middle Strait (Baratang).
The Police team of PS Baratang had to put extra efforts on Saturday and Sunday at two fronts, Baratang and Gandhi Ghat Jetty, to manage law and order situation.
Yesterday till 11.30 PM vehicle ferry was operated at Gandhi Ghat to clear all traffic of ATR.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Shipping Services is sending one vehicle ferry from Port Blair to manage the vacation rush of ATR Traffic.
