Port Blair, June 25: Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament, expressing serious concern over the health issue of the residents of Shaheed Dweep who are compelled to consume raw water for drinking purpose, has written a letter to the Lt Governor drawing his attention towards the fact that two numbers of RO Plants (Big and small) were installed for supplying safe drinking water to the villagers of the Island.
But since past many days, the RO Plant of larger capacity is not functioning, and the villagers are supplied raw water for drinking which is adversely affecting their health.
Mr. Kuldeep also emphasized that if immediate action is not taken to get the defective RO Plant operational, in due course of time inadequacy of potable drinking water at Shaheed Dweep will also affect the island’s tourism industry. Hence, Member of Parliament has requested the Lt Governor to kindly look into the matter.
