Port Blair, March 06: State Transport Service of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will soon introduce air-conditioned and electronic buses for the comfort of people and to have greater focus on environmental issues.
While talking to Andaman Sheekha, the Director of Transport Department, Mr. Navlendra Kumar Singh today said that the department has ordered for twelve Air-Conditioned buses and the buses will be arriving soon, after which journey for public in many routes will become very comfortable. He said that introduction of Air-Condition buses will also reduce number of private vehicles on road and will inturn reduce air-pollution.
“The tendering process for electric buses is on and it will be cleared soon. The buses will be reaching Port Blair soon,” he added.
Mr. Singh said that while initially all air-conditioned buses will be operated in Port Blair region, among 40 electric buses, some will be operated at Port Blair while others will be sent to Diglipur Island, Swaraj Dweep and Shahid Dweep.
