Port Blair, Mar 03: Mr. Subrata Basu, a social worker of Kadamtala area has requested the Administration to set up a Snake Park at Kadamtala area of Middle Andaman.
Mr. Subrata Basu is well known in Kadamtala area for his skills to catch venomous snakes like King Cobra and Andaman Cobra and saves people from snakes as well as snakes from human attacks.
His services are also utilized by Forest Department in the area to catch snakes. Recently he was awarded “Andaman and Nicobar Media Federation’s Andaman Heroes” award for his valuable contributions to the society.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Subrata Basu said that he is presently meeting senior officers to request for setting up of Snake Park in Kadamtala area. According to him Kadamtala is a place where huge number of King Cobra and Andaman Cobra are found and in a year he catches nearly 60 to 70 snakes from the region.
He said that such Snake Park will ensure that snakes are safe in controlled environment and also public can see and learn a lot from these snakes. According to Mr. Basu such snake park will also promote tourism in entire Middle Andaman area to a great extends.
“Villagers often allege that the snakes which are released into the forest area after being caught are coming back to the village and hence a Snake Park, will ensure that snakes do not return back to village area,” He added.
