Port Blair, Mar 03: Mr. G. Bhasker, Ex-General Secretary, ANTCC has requested early action from the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on the issue of Inordinate delay in delivering LPG Cylinders at North & Middle Andaman
In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, Mr. G Bhasker said that in the North and Middle Andaman, (Baratang, Kadamtala, Rangat, Mayabunder and Diglipur) the LPG cylinders are not being supplied to the residents on time due to which the people of the areas are in severe crisis for the gas cylinders.
“If LPG Cylinders are not made available when it is needed by the customers/residents on time, the problem being faced by them for Cylinders is very acute. After booking the cylinders, people have to wait for more than two to three months to get the same and finally when it reaches them in the respective areas by the concerned Gas agencies the supply is lesser than the demands. I understand that this situation is created either by the local IOC (Indane) or by the Gas Agencies which are not taking timely action in transporting Gas Cylinders from Port Blair to the above mentioned areas. I understand that the same is the situation in other remote parts of the islands,” Mr. Bhasker added.
He requested the Lt. Governor to issue necessary directions to the Department of Civil Supplies for coordinating the issues with the Indane (IOC) as well as the CCS/Private Agencies and ensure adequate stock of LPG Cylinders in North and Middle Andaman as well as other remote islands so as to enable the customers in collecting cylinders at least within a week of their bookings.
“It has been seen that the people of North and Middle Andaman recently undertook a mass agitation in front of the District Office, Mayabunder demanding the above basic need to be provided by the Administration without delay,” he added.
