Port Blair, Feb 27: The case of assaulting a driver by CISF Jawans recently at Haddo Wharf area and delay in registration of FIR has left many residents of Port Blair fuming.
Today a group of youths of Port Blair representing the Tour Operators Union and the people, supporting the injustice against the driver, Mr. Shahid, met the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman, Mr. Deepak Yadav, IPS and demanded justice in this case.
Ex-councillor of ward 06, PBMC, Mr. Aziz-ul-Rehman, Mr. Sanjay Sashi Kumar, Manager Barefoot Holidays, Mr. Sandeep Lal owner of Andaman Aqua Holidays, Mr Faiz Asif, MD, Sealink Adventures, Mr. Nazib Siddiqui business manager(b2b) Experience Andamans, Mr. Niayz owner, De Meadows and Mr Bhupathi, ATS member were in the delegation, which met the SP. The SP reportedly assured that a proper investigation will be done in this case and all necessary inquiry will be made.
The group also raised the issue of the harassment of drivers at Haddo wharf where the CISF personnel are interrupting the tour drivers and coordinators who visit the wharf to drop and pick their guests. On this Superintendent of Police said that this will be taken seriously and steps will be taken to sort this out this problem. He also assured that he will discuss this matter with CISF.
Earlier yesterday night, the tour association members, drivers and local people of Port Blair gathered in front of Chatham police station forming a huge crowd and demanded a FIR against the CISF personnel. Around 9:15 pm the Station House Officer A. Usmaan agreed to talk to people representatives. Later Mr. Nishant Gupta DySP, South Andaman visited Chatham police station and assured the representatives that they will collect the video evidence and conduct proper investigation and whosever is responsible, will be punished accordingly.
