Port Blair, Feb 26: Huge number of youths today staged protest infront of PS Chatham this evening for not registering FIR based on complaint of a local youth, who was allegedly beaten up and manhandled by CISF Jawans at Haddo Wharf.
The incident took place on Saturday at around 3 PM when a CISF jawans at Haddo Jetty gate had some arguments with a cab driver. When another youth Mr. Shahid came for the rescue of the cab driver, the CISF Jawans reportedly left the Cab Driver and started to beat Shahid. The incident was capture by some people in mobile phone.
Surprisingly when Mr. Shahid went to PS Chatham to file a case, the police unit reportedly refused to file a FIR in this regard however a complaint from the side of CISF was reportedly taken very seriously by the same police unit and a FIR was launched based on complained lodged by CISF unit.
Today protesting youths outside the PS Chatham demanded FIR against the CISF Jawans based on complaint of Shahid. The youths also demanded CCTV footage of Haddo Jetty area.
This is surprising to note that complaint lodged by a youth, who has clear evidence of being attacked by CISF Jawan, was not entertained by police.
Meanwhile, when Andaman Sheekha team visited Haddo Jetty area and met senior officers of CISF unit, they refused to say anything on the record but mentioned that an internal inquiry has already been ordered in this case. The CISF officer also told Andaman Sheekha that there are no CCTV cameras, where this incident took place. Till the last report poured in the DySP South Andaman, Mr. Nishant Gupta reached PS Chatham and was talking to the protesting youths.
