Port Blair, Feb 15: All India Radio, Port Blair in association with National Cooperative Union of India, Port Blair celebrated “Radio Kisan Diwas” on 15th February 2019 in Panchayat Hall of Beodnabad Panchayat. A large number of farmers and farm women participated in the function. Chief Guest Smt. Shanti Varadarajan, Pradhan, Beodnabad Panchayat expressed her happiness over organizing such programmes in rural areas and opined that it will surely help in achieving the goal of Govt of India of doubling the income of farmers by 2022. She also told that Radio can play a vital role in it. Dr. Chandarani Srivastav, Assistant Director of Agriculture spoke about various schemes implemented by the department for the welfare of the farming community. She explained about Pradhan Mantri KisanSammanYojna and requested the farmers to enrol them in the scheme.
Smt. Sharmila Sandeep Sherla, AGM, NBARD dwell in detail about the various activities of NBARD in agriculture and rural development and appealed to the women to form SHG’s for economic empowerment.
Dr. Neetu Sindhu, Agri. entrepreneur shared her experience in Mushroom cultivation. Mr. Surender Nath Singh, Project Officer, NCUI described the various activities of the union. Earlier Mr. S.Ramachandran, Programme Head, AIR, Port Blair welcomed the gathering. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Shibu George, Programme Executive, AIR, Port Blair.
