Port Blair, Feb 05: The Sanitation workers to Health Department, who have recently been removed from jobs by the private outsourcing company today staged protest infront of Health Department demanding their EPF amount of last eight years and direct re-engagement in Health Department. Today was the second day of their protest.
Recently, in the first week of January, the outsourcing agency for providing Sanitation Workers to Health Department reportedly removed around 102 Sanitation Workers, most of whom, were working in hospital since last many years.
Such sudden removal has come as a great shock to the Sanitation workers, who hail from very poor families.
Workers alleged that earlier many outsourcing agencies had taken contract to provide Sanitation workers to the G B Pant hospital but never such incident came to the light.
Many alleged that there are workers who had been rendering services for the past 8 years but they did not get, EPF benefits after removal from job.
Mr. Sanjay Meshak the MP candidate of AAP in Andaman for coming Lok Sabha Election today reached the spot and spoke to the workers. Later talking to media he alleged that not paying EPF to employees is a crime and it seems there is a massive scandal with EPF payment of these employees. Mr. Sanjay Meshak demanded a thorough inquiry in this regard. “The DHS must remove the system of appointing a middle man in appointment of sanitation workers. This outsourcing system must stop,” Mr. Meshak demanded.
