Port Blair, Feb 01: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament inaugurated first Water ATM in Port Blair city on 30th January, 2019 in front of PBMC Head Quarter premises. The Port Blair Municipal Council is pioneer to start water ATM on pilot basis with lower installation cost and maintenance. This noble initiative not only provides potable drinking water for tourists / citizens but also reduces plastic wastes substantially over a period of time. This water ATM would dispense safe and clean drinking water at a nominal price of Rs. 1 & 5/- for 300 ml. and one ltr respectively. In his address the MP reiterated that he was delighted to inaugurate the first water ATM of the Islands and also the MPLAD fund has been used for yet another good cause. Speaking on the occasion Smt. Anusia Devi, Chairperson, PBMC applauded the effort of Member of Parliament for installing the first ever water ATM in the city. She further stated that this water ATM has been designed to provide the common public with the safest and purest water to drink. The water which is being dispensed through this ATM is RO purified. As this ATM does not provide packaged water, consumers need to get their own water bottles, which can be filled at this ATM. Since PBMC got a good response from citizens as well as the visiting tourists, hence, the Council is planning to install such water ATM in greater number within the ambit of PBMC because water is a basic necessity of every individual. We aim to provide safe drinking water to every individual in these cities, as said by Anusia Devi, Chairperson, PBMC.
