Port Blair, Jan 22: The Candidates of Primary School Teacher recruitment have resorted to hunger strike from today after their demands of withdrawal of cancellation from last PST Recruitment process was not heard. Two candidates, Mr Subhankar and Ms. Sushma today sat on indefinite hunger strike and they will continue the Hunger Strike till they get any favourable response from the administration.
Since 14 January 2019 nearly 150 selected candidates of PST recruitment were holding peaceful dharna in front of Directorate of Education, but till now they have not got any positive assurance from the side of administration. Later since 19th January they have been organising relay hunger strike and from today after getting no response they have resorted to indefinite hunger strike, it is learnt.
The Education Department had recently cancelled the PST recruitment process completely after finding some discrepancies with name of some selected candidates but instead of correcting the merit list the entire process of cancelled, which left other selected candidates deeply disappointed.
The candidates have been demanding withdrawal of the cancellation of recruitment of PST which was published on 11th January 2019.
Candidates told Andaman Sheekha that till next recruitment is planned CTET certificate of many candidates, in present list, will become invalid. Many others will be over aged, which will be another major problem for candidates.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha the protesting candidates requested the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Secretary to intervene into this matter and not to cancel the last recruitment process and to display the corrected merit list and to issue appointment orders to the eligible candidates before the General Election 2019.
