N & M, Dec 21: ICAR- KVK, N&M Andaman (CIARI) organized two trainings on “Soil and water conservation methods for better crop productivity” and “Integrated multi trophic aquaculture system” at DFO Office, Navin Nagar and Subhashgram, Diglipur respectively. A three days training programme for In-service/ Extension functionaries at Conference Hall of DFO Office, Diglipur was inaugurated by Mr. Shyamal Mondal, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Diglipur in presence of PRI members, Er. Manoj Kumar, Dr. Shailesh Kumar and delegates from Department of Forest, Agriculture, Fisheries and NGO’s. In his inaugural speech Mr. Shyamal Mondal, expressed for the need of soil and water conservation measures for enhancing crop productivity in this region. Er. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agril. Engineering) briefed about the three days training programme and urged the participants to adopt scientific methods of soil and water conservation methods for better crop productivity on a sustainable basis. Experts of KVK had interactive sessions on different topics such as importance of soil and water conservation, weathering and soil formation, Soils of North Andaman and its properties, water resources and their utilization, micro irrigation system, soil conservation through mechanical and biological methods etc. by Er. Manoj Kumar and Dr. Shailesh Kumar. Film shows and group discussion were also held during the training programme.
The training programme on Integrated multi trophic aquaculture (IMTA) system at Subhashgram, Diglipur was inaugurated in presence of Mr. Prabhat Biswas, Up-Pradhan, Subhashgram, experts of KVK, PRI’s and participants. During the technical sessions topics on Principle and practices of IMTA, Cluster approach of IMTA for blue revolution, Nutrient flow and recovery efficiency of IMTA, organic fish farming approaches, feed management in aquaculture, marketing of fish produce and post harvest management etc were covered by Dr. Shailesh Kumar and Er. Manoj Kumar. Visuals and practical demonstrations were also shown during the programme. A total of 56 participants were benefitted from both the training programmes. The trainings were organized by Er. Manoj Kumar and Dr. Shailesh Kumar under the supervision & guidance of Dr. B. L. Kasinath, Sr. Scientist & Head and Dr. A. Kundu, Director, CIARI, Port Blair, as said in a press note by Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, N&M Andaman.
