Port Blair, Nov 19: CPR Environmental Education Centre Port Blair organized a one day Capacity Building Workshop and field visit for trainees of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan District Institute of Education & Training (DIET). The workshop was organized at Hall of DIET, Garacharma on 16.11.2018. In this workshop, awareness created through Powerpoint presentation about the Andaman and Nicobar Islands biodiversity, harbouring unique endemic life forms.
During the workshop, Mr. Sukumar Das, Instructor, Forest Training Institute, Wimberly Gunj delivered the lecture on Biodiversity and its importance with special reference to Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dr. P. T. Rajan Retd. Sr. Zoological Assistant elucidated on faunal diversity of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Dr. Sanjay Mishra, Scientist, Botanical Survey of India discussed on floral diversity of Andaman and Nicobar islands. At the end of the technical session, the law students participated in a discussion regarding the biodiversity register by Mr. A.Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair.
Second day, a field trip was organized on 17.11.2018. The trainees visited Wetland Sippighat, Botanical Survey of India, Nayashehar, Marine Interpretation Centre, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park, Wandoor and visited the mangrove patch of Sippighat. Mr. Kaliamoorty, Research scholar and Dr. Vivek, Botanical Assistant, Botanical Survey of India educated the trainees in respective field to conserve the biodiversity in Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the Field visit.
Earlier, Mr. A.Gopal, Project Officer, CPREEC, Port Blair welcomed the dignitaries and the participants of the workshop. Mr. Sara Chandran, Dy. Director of Education (Science), Department of Education inaugurated the workshop. Mrs. Anand Kumari, Principal, DIET given the facilitation address during the inaugural session.
