Diglipur, Nov 11: Due to lack of specialist services, remote hospitals usually refer serious medical cases to Port Blair. Today from CHC Diglipur nine such cases were referred to GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair along with one Ayah and one Nursing Officer.
Out of these nine cases, five cases were said to be pregnancy related. In every sailing about 15 tickets are blocked for referred patients by the DSS and only two sailings are available per week to Diglipur since many months.
Today the referred patients and attendants went to Aerial Bay jetty and bought tickets for M V Coral Queen, which was scheduled to sail for Port Blair at 2 PM.
During embarkation five expecting mothers, 8-9 months of pregnancy, were offloaded from the ship.
The Ship was having one Doctor onboard and well equipped hospital ward. The Ship’s captain and Doctor were ready to allow the patients but citing inclement weather they asked for an undertaking from the Nursing Officer, who denied. After this the pregnant ladies were offloaded and returned to CHC Diglipur again.
Speaking to Andaman Sheekha CMO CHC Diglipur Dr Nicolas said that due to inclement weather the ship personnel had decided not to take risk in such cases. He said that tomorrow, if weather becomes favourable, these patients will sent to Port Blair by helicopter.
