Pottatang, Aug 26: A 7 year old Jarawa kid, S/o Tawai, died after drowning in a check dam at Pottatang Jarawa Reserve area on Saturday evening at 3 PM.
According to information received here a check dam was constructed inside the Jarawa reserve for the benefit of the Jarawas Tribes so that water is available for Jarawa tribes during summer season also.
On Saturday evening when no one was there, small kids were playing in that Check Dam and during that one 7 year old boy died after drowning.
Sources said that after this incident some Jarawa Tribe members showed minor aggression and shoot arrows towards AAJVS staffs, who somehow escaped from the spot and reported the matter to the police. However the last convoy of ATR from both side crossed the ATR without any disruption.
The cremation ceremony of the Jarawa Kids was later performed at the evening by Jarawa Tribes, sources said. The situation is normal today, it is learnt.
This is yet another side-effect of introducing modern technologies for tribal communities, who are self sufficient. This is debatable whether the Administration should have secured the Check Dam premises or have maintained some kind of watch to prevent accident like this.
