Port Blair, July 22: The C. P. R. Environmental Education Centre is a Centre of Excellence in Environmental Education of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India.
Its chief Mandate is to promote environmental awareness raising and dissemination of information on the issues of environmental concern to the people. CPREEC develops innovative programmes and builds capacity in the field of education and communication for sustainable development. It endorses attitudes, strategies and technologies that are environmentally sustainable.
CPREEC in collaboration with WIPRO – Earthian has taken up a Sustainability Education Programme in South India. The programme involves innovative project submissions on sustainability of water and biodiversity by groups of Students guided by a teacher. The programme is creative in promoting environmental thinking among the school going children ( Std . VII to XII ) which is highly connected to the curriculum.
CPREEC, Port Blair organized a workshop for teachers in collaboration with Wipro Foundation – Earthian and the Science wing of Directorate of Education at the Hall of DDE sc on 20.07.2018. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr . Sarachandran , Deputy Director of Education ( sc ). In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of flora and Fauna of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Meanwhile, Mr. Momman Thomas, DEO ( SA ) and Mr. R . K . Singh, SPO , SSA also present and addressed on the occasion.
In the technical session, Dr . S . Dam Roy , Head , Fisheries Science Division , ICAR – CIARI, Port Blair delivered lecture on water conservation and multiple use of water for agriculture, Dr . P.M , Mohan , Professor , Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology , Pondicherry University delivered lecture on Biodiversity and its importance with special reference to Andaman and Nicobar Port Blair islands. Mr. A . Gopal, Project Officer , CPREEC discussed the biodiversity & water sustainability framework of Earthiar. Earlier, Mrs. Kalpana Singh , Science Consultant , DDE ( sc ) welcomed the gatherings.
