Port Blair, July 11: With a view to effectively implementing the Right to Education Act, the Lt. Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) Bhopinder Singh PVSM, AVSM has given his nod for creation of 594 posts. Thus, 297 part time Pre Primary Teachers and 297 part time Pre Primary Ayahs would be appointed with a view to preparing children above the age of three years for elementary education and to provide early childhood care and education for all children until they complete the age of six years. Directorate of Education would open Pre Primary classes in all the Government Schools having primary section irrespective of the category of school. This will also provide uniform platform and equal level playing field for all the Primary Schools. So far only one hundred and eleven part time Ayahs were being engaged. A delegation of part time Primary School Teachers and Ayahs had met the Lt. Governor with Pradesh Congress President Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma in Raj Niwas today at 4.30 PM.
The Selection Committee namely School Development and Managing Committee will give wide publicity about the engagement of PPTs and PPAs to the local community and invite applications from the eligible candidates and selection will be made every year for the academic session of ten months. The temporary engagement so far in some schools was being made on a consolidated salary of 5000/- for PPTs and 3000/- for PPAs. This remuneration has been increased to 7000/- and 5000/- respectively. This will entail an expenditure of over 3.5 crores per academic session. The Lt. Governor has also relaxed the educational qualification for engagement of PPAs to provide employment opportunities for the women in the islands particularly in the rural and remote islands.
