Port Blair, July 11: The Coast Guard District/Station Commanders and Works Conference was held at Regional Headquarters (A&N), Port Blair on 09 and 10 Jul 12.
The Conference was presided over by Inspector General VSR Murthy, President Tatrakshak Medal, Tatrakshak Medal, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) and attended by all District/Station Commanders of the outlying Coast Guard Units of the A&N region and Commanding Officer of all Coast Guard Ships and Establishments at Port Blair. The conference also reviewed the infrastructure development progress of Indian Coast Guard in the A&N Region with the participation of Brigadier KK Repswal, Chief Engineer (A&N) Zone and his team.
During his opening address the Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) brought out that Coast Guard roles and responsibilities have increased manifolds over the year and accordingly Govt has also sanctioned setting up of number of Stations and acquisition of ships and aircraft. By 2018, CG Stations are likely to be doubled and CG fleet is likely to expand to have 150 ships/boats and 100 aircraft against the present level of 71 surface platforms and 56 aircraft. During the conference the District/Station commanders put forth their views in terms of operations, achievements and future plan regarding development of Coast Guard in their area of jurisdiction.
The infrastructure development plan considering the future expansion of service was also discussed in detail as envisaged by Coast Guard Development Plan 2012-17. Matters pertaining to fine tuning of operational philosophy and modalities to achieve Key Result Areas in administrative and technical management was also chalked out.
During the conference, the COMCG applauded the contribution of the Chief Engineer (A&N) Zone and his team in providing the much needed infrastructure development works for Coast Guard in A&N Region. He expressed confidence that with the continued support and commitment from the Chief Engineer (A&N) Zone, by 2017, Coast Guard Region (A&N) is well poised to adequately augment its existing berthing facilities and also the other infrastructure requirement of various Coast Guard Stations spread all along the Islands. On conclusion of the conference, Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) expressed his satisfaction over the proceedings and requested to make joint and concerted efforts to meet the Key Result Areas as envisaged.
