Port Blair, June 24: Javed Hussain, a resident of Naya Shaher has been arrested by Humpherygunj Police unit on Saturday night for allegedly setting his wife on fire.
According to villagers the accused, a habitual alcoholic, used to suspect that his newly married 2nd wife is having extra marital affairs. As per details after an argument over this issue, he set her on fire on Saturday night.
The accused reportedly left his first wife and married this girl just three months back and used to live in a rented house at Naya Shaher. Both accused and victim are said to be actual residents of Namunaghar.
The victim, with 75 percent burn injuries, was later shifted to Manglutan Hospital immediately from where she was referred to G B Pant Hospital, where her condition continued to be critical. The accused was reportedly produced to court today from where he was sent to Judicial Custody.
