Port Blair, Mar 27: All the street food vendors including panipuri vendors have been directed by the Commissioner of Food Safety to protect food articles exhibited for sale near road side from dust and dirt.
They have been strictly directed to ensure that food articles are prepared and served hygienically; Sufficient protection is given to food articles from exposure to dirt and dust; Street food vendors offering food for sale in open handcarts are advised to keep their food handcarts neat and tidy and atleast 5 mts away from the road; Proper dress code has to be maintained such as clean and neat headwears, aprons and hand gloves to be used by the food handlers; Necessary provision for safe and potable water has to be made by the vendor and adequate arrangement should be ascertained for safe disposal of waste/ refuses.
All the street food vendors have been given one week’s time to carry out the rectifications and thereafter stringent action shall be initiated against the defaulters.
