Port Blair, Mar 12: Hundreds of residents of Mayabunder today organized a Chakka Jam at Danapur Junction, Mayabunder since 3.00 AM.
Angry protesters were demanding immediate repair of road from Danapur to Karmatang, better BSNL Connectivity, Proper LPG supply, issue of permit for Sand, Bamboo and other forest produces.
Because of the protest all the ATR vehicles, including ATR buses got delayed at Danapur. Even exam of a local private school was cancelled as students could not reach the school on time.
As per details, the protest was attended by nearly 500 people who refused to talk even to the Tehsilder of the area when he came for negotiation.
Later on the direction RD Panchayat, the Executive Engineer of APWD of the area reached the protest site and said the road from Danapur to Karmatang, belonging to Zilla Parishad, will be taken over by APWD with immediate effect. The EE APWD also gave this in writing.
The Officials of Forest Department told protesters that from today Forest Department will accept application for permit for Bamboo cutting and soon permit will be issue to public. After such assurances the protest was withdrawn at around 8.30 am.
The Chakka Jam was led by Mr. Thomson, ex Pradhan & Mr. Anand, Up Pradhan, Rampur Panchayat.
