Port Blair, Mar 06: Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament met the Defence Minister at New Delhi and appraised the issue of eviction proceedings imitated by the Estate Officer (Naval Officer In-charge), HQ Naval Component, Port Blair without making any alternative relief, against 34 poor families of Gadda Bijan at Campbell Bay who are residing in the said land since 1970. During discussion, Mr. Ray, MP also presented a letter No. 06/MP/VIP/2018/AMR/Del-174-VIP dated 06.03.2018 to the Defence Minister.
The MP demanded that the order of eviction may be kept in abeyance for the time being.
Direction to locate an alternate area in the same island in a time bound manner for settlement of these encroachers may be given.
Lump sum money package could be worked out by the Naval Component to be provided to these families for shifting to the new location.
