Port Blair, Jan 25: As a part of Disaster preparedness, the Directorate of Shipping Services has conducted a Mock Drill on earthquake followed by Tsunami on 24/01/2018 at 1000 hrs in the premises of Marine Dockyard. This Mock Drill was conducted in coordination with the Directorate of Disaster Management, A & N Administration, Port Blair. In the mock drill, the scenario of major earth quake was replicated, followed with a major Tsunami suppose to hit Port Blair in 30 to 60 minutes.
Immediately on activation of Tsunami siren installed inside the Marine Dockyard, all personnel’s following the Standard Operating Procedure, vacated their respective place of work and through the prescribed escape route reached to the pre determined Tsunami Shelter point at Marine Hill near IMF Canteen within a span of 23 minutes. Simultaneously all operational vessels also moved to deep sea. Altogether 753 personnel’s including employees of DSS, IRBn personnel posted at Marine Dockyard and staff of private contractors working inside the marine dockyard, participated in the mock drill. Eventually at Shelter point a combined briefing was undertaken by Shri. Mahinder Singh (AME) the Nodal Officer, Disaster Management, DSS and the officers from the Directorate of Disaster Management.
The entire mock drill was closely witnesses by Deputy Director (SS) and Director Disaster Management.
