Port Blair, July 02: Mr. Satish Mathur, IAS, Secretary (Tourism), A & N Administration, Port Blair today lauded the efforts of the ANCOFED in the installation of its 2nd cold chambers for the benefit of the farmers and fruit vendors of the islands and said that the turnover of the Federation must be enhanced to Rs. 50.00 Crores by 2020 by embarking upon the field of Tourism and Fisheries which have vast scope and are the only potential sectors in the economic development.
Mr. Mathur said this after inaugurating the 2nd Cold Chamber unit set up by the A & N Co-operative Supply & Marketing Federation Ltd., at its premises at Phoenix Bay, Port Blair under the RKVY Scheme.
The Cold Storage was inaugurated in the presence of Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, Directors of the Federation, Smti Firdosh Bibi, Chairperson, PBMC, Registrar of Coop. Societies, others officials of the Administration, Representative of Coop. Institutions, Fruit vendors, Fishermen and general public.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman welcoming the Chief Guest and other distinguished Guest on the dias and other participants thanked the Administration for extending the financial support for setting up the cold chamber by the Federation for the development of coop. movement in the islands. He further said that the Federation has already set up a cold chamber of 8 Metric Tonne capacity at Industrial Estate, Dollygunj and this is the 2nd unit of 4 Metric Tonne is set up for the benefit of the Fruits / vegetables vendors to enable them to sell the quality fruits / vegetables to the general public at reasonable rates.
Mr. A. Nedunchezhiyan, Registrar of Coop. Societies, A & N Islands in his address appreciated the efforts of ANCOFED for doing excellent work in the Agriculture sector for the benefit of the farmers / PACS, Fruit vendors. He further said that modifications are being done in the existing A & N Islands Coop. Societies Regulation, 1973 in the interest of the Coop. movement in islands to empower the Board of Management of the Federations of different Coop. Institutions to oversee and monitor the day to day affairs of the Affiliated Coop. Societies effectively for the smooth functioning of the coop. societies.
Mr. Anant Rao, Director, ANCOFED, Port Blair on behalf of the management of the Federation conveyed thanks to the Chief Guest for sparing his valuable time for the inauguration of the cold chamber unit. He also thanked the Chairperson, Sr. Vice Chairperson, Municipal Council, Registrar of Coop. Societies, Director of Agriculture, General Manager, NABARD, Media persons, Directors of Coop. Bank, CCS, CCWS, PRI members and the general public for their valuable presence in the inaugural function of the Cold Chamber.
