Port Blair, Jan 16: The month long ‘Production Oriented Theatre Workshop’ got underway with an informal inauguration function organized in Andaman Club here today. The workshop, being jointly organized by ‘Kala Kendra’ – A & N Islands Society for Promotion of Art & Culture under Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration and National School of Drama, will deal with a whole range of subjects related to and with theatre such as acting, movement, light, make-up, costume, speech and theatre history etc. Mr. Surinder Sharma, eminent actor and Director is the Camp Director. Mr. Avinash Deshpande, eminent actor and Mr. Partho Banerjee, a popular Mime artist are the resource persons deputed by National School of Drama to conduct the workshop.
Mr. Naresh Chandra Lall, Padmashree Awardee and an eminent theatre and Film Director was present in the function as a special guest. He encouraged all participants to come forward and learn the art of theatre under the guidance of eminent theatre personalities from the National School of Drama. Mr. Lall, while narrating his days of struggle assured to extend his full support and guidance to island artists to get admission in National School of Drama. Mr. Surinder Sharma while interacting with the participants emphasized that theatre is an art form that brings people together to celebrate, challenge and provoke through the telling of stories. Human beings naturally want to express themselves, and theatre is the most expressive art form. Altogether 30 artists are participating in the workshop. Earlier Dr. Rashida Iqbal, Assistant Director (Art & Culture) welcomed all the guests and participants.
