Port Blair, Jan 15: A special drive to ascertain the quality of milk was conducted in between 12th to 15th Dec, 2017 in South Andaman District. Altogether, 41 milk vendors were inspected. During inspection some milk vendors were found violating various provisions of Food Safety & standards Act, 2006, Rules & Regulations, 2011. Among them 14 milk vendors were found contravening various provisions of the said Act and all those 14 milk vendors were penalized and a sum of Rs.47000/-(Rupees Forty Seven Thousand only) was realized as penalty. Samples of milk were also collected and tested in the Food Testing Laboratory. As per the test report 24 milk vendors were found selling substandard milk adulterated with water and in few cases the added water was found up to 48%.
The Commissioner Food Safety has warned the milk vendors to refrain from such activities and not to sell unhygienic and adulterated milk or otherwise stringent action shall be initiated against the violators.
