Port Blair, Jan 03: The Surya Chakra Power Corporation Limited, Port Blair, which was earlier supplying only 2-2.5 MW of Power instead of supplying 20 MW will now even stop providing that 2-2.5 MW power also, from today.
As per reliable sources, the only working DG set of SPCL has developed some problems in the AVR after a jerk that was developed in the feeder today.
As per reliable sources, the Engineers of SPCL has already informed the matter to their higher authorities and also to the Andaman Administration and now there is an uncertainty over the fact that who will bear the cost of repairing this DG set, SPCL or Andaman Administration?
Reliable Sources told Andaman Sheekha that around Rs. 2.5 lakhs will be the cost of the repairing work in the DG set.
Andaman Sheekha also learnt that a private company of Hyderabad namely Precision Engineering Works gave a quotation of Rs 20,00,000 lakhs for repairing two other DG sets which are non functional since last few months due to technical snags but the SPCL authorities haven’t agreed to spent for repairing the DG sets because they were told by the Andaman Administration that they won’t be extending their agreement which will finish soon.
The differences of opinion between the Independent Power Producing Company as well as the Administration is finally hitting General Public hard. Andaman Sheekha has learnt that if the two DG sets of SPCL were repaired earlier by SPCL, there would not be any issues of Power outage today.
It is learnt that due to the total shutdown of all four engines of 20 MW Suryachakra Power Plant, Bambooflat, the Electricity department is compelled to enhance the ongoing evening hour peak demand rotational load shedding from 1 Hr. to 1 ½ Hrs. from 03.01.2018, onward till improvement of power situation.
In a press release the Electricity Department today said that the load shedding schedule is tentative and the duration and timing may vary depending on power demand and generation gap.
“Under unavoidable circumstances load shedding will be exercised beyond peak load hours also. As per the report received from M/s Suryachakra Power Plant, Bambooflat, one of the DG set is likely to be operationalized within 48 hrs,” a release from Electricity Department said here today.
Earlier, the Secretary power in a press conference has already mentioned on record that the Administration has started the process of cancelling the license of the SPCL and hence after this goof up the million dollar question is whether this is the end of SPCL’s chapter in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
