Port Blair, Dec 08 : As a part of the on-going Swachh Bharat Mission, Swachhta Pakhwada is underway by various units of Andaman & Nicobar Command from 01 Dec onwards. The objective of this fortnight was to focus on the issues & practices of Swachhta by engaging & involving everyone. The activities being undertaken to promote cleanliness include beach cleaning, cleaning of surroundings and educating families on importance of cleanliness in our daily lives.
Towards this, Beach Cleaning drive was undertaken on 05th and 06 December by Army component at Birchgunj. Emphasis was laid on improving cleanliness standards in the cantonment area including married accommodations, play grounds, office complexes and cook houses. To inculcate cleanliness awareness among the masses, Segregated Waste Management Centre, Birchgunj has been organising waste management workshops for families of all ranks to promote Swachhta as a way of life among the younger generation. These initiatives are aimed at realising the dream of “Clean India and Green India”.
