Port Blair, Nov 29: Acting on a specific information received from reliable source that some new comers travelling from Banglore to Port Blair by Go Air flight on 26/11/2017 are bringing some prohibited materials in a huge quantity. Accordingly, a team comprising of ASI Jarumba, HC/A. K. Singh, PCs P. K. Mondal, Hari Krishna Yadav of PS Central Crime Station and HC/Ajay Kumar & PC/ArunXaxa of Special Branch (CID) rushed to VS International Airport, Lamba Line and a trap was laid. The raiding team recovered 1800 Pouches each cont. 40 gram BagbanZarda (Chewing tobacco) from the possession of three persons namely T. Thilakar S/o Thiyagarajan R/o 7/14 Seetharam Nagar, 5th Street, 2nd Cross Street, Kodunagaiyur, Kodunagaiyur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu-6000118, P. Nagarajan S/o Pachatcharam R/o 119/145 TH Road, Kodunagaiyur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu-6000118 and Smti N. Radha W/o Nagaraj R/o 1/47, Kaveri Salai, Kodunagaiyur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu-6000118. Later on the recovered tobacco contraband have been handed over to Food Safety Officer who seized and took into custody of all the contraband items and the persons. The whole operation was carried out under the overall supervision of Mr. B. Saigal, Dy. SP (CID).
Keeping its commitment of Zero tolerance against illegal activities, the police personnel of PS Central Crime Station and CID unit conducting frequent raids and take prompt action on credible tip-off from general public/informers.Sharp vigil is being kept on the transportation and sale of such banned products in A & N Islands.
