Port Blair, Nov 15: The consecration of the newly constructed St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral at Mohanpura will be done by the Catholicos of the East & Malankara metropolitan, His holiness Baselios Marthoma Paulose II. The consecration of the New Church will be done in two parts i…e. from 6:00PM to 9:00PM on Nov.17 and from 6:00AM to 11AM on Nov.18 in the presences of his Grace Dr. Yacob Mar Irenaios metropolitan of Kochi Diocese and his grace Dr. Yuhanon Mar Diascoros metropolitan of madras Diocese. As part of this joyous occasion, a vehicle procession will be taken out by the members of the cathedral to welcome the Bishops to the newly constructed Church at 4:30PM on November 17 from Bathubasthi.
The St. Mary’s Orthodox Syrian cathedral has completed 50years of Orthodox presence in A & N islands. The Church at Mohanpura was consecrated on January 26 in the year 1984 by his Grace Zacharia Mar Dionysius and was elevated to the status of cathedral on February 12, 1995.
