Port Blair, Nov 09: The crime rate in the city seems to be increasing day by day but instead of focusing on serious issues and deploying police jawans for right tasks, the Andaman Nicobar Police is deploying Police Jawans in front of the various ANIIDCO Wine Shops in the City, to maintain the queue.
All of us well know that the prime duty of Police Department is to maintain Law & Order in the city but here in these Islands the Police Department seems to be too worried about maintaining the queue in front of the Wine Shops.
“This is sad to see that a task which should be carried out by Private Security Guards, police constables, sometimes even Sub-Inspectors are seen handling the queue infront of the Wine Shops. This is such a shame,” said a resident of Port Blair city.
At each ANIIDCO Wine shop one can see around 3-4 Police Jawans maintaining the queue.
Insiders told Andaman Sheekha that Police Jawans are highly demoralised to do such a kind of job. Talking to Andaman Sheekha some of the Police Jawans on the condition of anonymity said before joining police force they never thought to do such unproductive duties.
“Yes, if there is any kind of law and order problem we are always ready to maintain, the ANIIDCO should have outsourced some Security Agency for this job,” said another Police Jawan in the case of anonymity.
Andaman Sheekha tried to contact the Superintendent of Police (District) in this regard but as usual neither she picked the call nor she replied to our questions sent by SMS.
Hope the new DGP will soon issue an order to the ANIIDCO to outsource a Security Agency for the aforesaid job and will deploy police jawans for task, they are recruited for.
