Port Blair, Oct 27: Indian Coast Guard conducted a Beach Clean Up drive at Marina Park beach on 25 Oct 17 towards Government of India flagship programme “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan”. The service has been effectively contributing not only towards the Prime Minister’s visionary step of Clean India Campaign but also has taken steps towards ‘Swachh Sagar Abbiyaan’ wherein measures have been put in place for keeping our oceans clean. As a part of Swachh Sagar Abhiyaan, Indian Coast Guard (A & N) has been undertaking cleanship of various beaches at Andaman & Nicobar islands on a weekly basis. The event was conducted by ICGS Vishwast wherein approximately 150 mtrs of beach was cleaned and about 400 kgs of garbage collected which was further handed over to PBMC for disposal. During the drive the banner was also displayed to sensitize the locals not to pollute the pristine beaches of the islands. The event was a great success and the beach looked cleaner on completion of the drive.
