Port Blair, Oct 27: An urgent meeting of A & N Islands Bar Association was organized today at 09.30 in the Bar Room and during the meeting the issues regarding the assault upon Mr. Arul Prashant, Advocate by one attacker was discussed. In the meeting it was informed to the members of the Bar that a case under relevant section of IPC was registered against the attacker at PS Aberdeen and he has been arrested and shall be produced before the Magistrate today.
During the meeting issues regarding safety and security measure of the Judges, Advocate and Prosecutors within the court premises were discussed. It was observed that the court premises lacks adequate safety measures and the entry and exist point in the court building does not have deployment of police and as such the district police administration may be asked to ensure deployment of adequate police personnel
It was also observed that installation of CCTV camera within the court premises is mandatory in terms of the directions of the Supreme Court.
The bar had already taken up this issue with the Ld. District Judge and it was felt necessary that an assurance should be given for early installation of CCTV Camera in the court premises. In view of the above it was decided by the bar not to attend the court for a day as a token of protest and to request the Judicial and Police Administration to provide an assurance for addressing the Security measures
within the court complex.
